Frequently Asked Questions
Spray Tan at Project Cosmetology gives the best advice and results.
This FAQ answers all your questions you should know about Spray Tanning.
What is spray-tanning?
A spray-tan treatment is a DHA based skin friendly solution which can temporarily darken the natural skin tone without unhealthy sun exposure. The solution wil penetrate through the upper derma layers of the skin which will eventually shed naturally and cause the spray-tan to gradually fade
How does a spray-tan treatment work?
Salon treatments vary, the solution can be applied in an automated spray-tan booth or as at Project C it is applied by hand with a spray-tan machine, we believe this is the best technique to get naturally even results.
What is the main ingredient DHA?
There are many spray-tan brands on the market worldwide, but the one ingredient that every solution consists of is DHA, otherwise known as Dihydroxyacetone. This is a derivative from sugarcane which when brought in contact with the skin will create a chemical reaction turning the skin darker.
When do I know which color best suits my skin tone?
Every brand has developed their own colour formula’s. Our BeauBronz solutions when matched properly will adapt to your skin tone. Depending on your skin tone and expectations, we at project C will explain upon arrival what options there are and which colour would best fit your needs. We will always advise a colour which will enhance your skin tone leaving you with a natural looking sun kissed look.
What to do before the treatment?
There are a few things you will need to do to prep your skin before a spray-tan. It is important to scrub the day before the treatment to get rid of the upper skin layer which will create a clean canvas for your treatment.
After you have scrubbed, hydrate the skin directly, as you cannot use any bodycreme on the day of the treatment. Bodycreme which is used before the treatment will cause a barrier for the spray-tan solution and can lead to uneven results. You make use a face creme on the day of the treatment, you can easily cleanse before hand.
Any shaving can be done the evening before, should you have sensitive skin, then preferably 24hrs before the treatment.
Bring or wear comfortable(cotton) clothing, no jeans or harsh materials.
What to do after the treatment?
Every colour has a different developing process. Your technician will tell you how long you should leave the colour to develop before showering. The developing time is usually between 4-8 hrs. Whilst the colour develops your skin must stay as dry as possible, that means no sports, training etc. Any type of moisture can lead to uneven results. You are able to move around as usual. We always finish of the treatment with a hydrating coating which seals the colour and protects against any rubbing of the spray-tan. Any uneven colour in the top coat will wash away with the bronzer and correct itself after showering.
How long can I expect a spray-tan to last?
BeauBronz spray-tan treatments will generally last anywhere between 5-12 days. The length or the spray-tan depends on how quick the natural skin renewal takes place and external maintenance factors such as exfoliating and hydrating the skin.
Is spray-tanning in any way bad for you?
No, there is no reason for a spray tan treatment to have a negative influence on your skin or health. At project C we use natural & organic solutions from the London based brand BeauBronz. We obviously cannot speak for other brands and would therefore always advise everyone to do reasonable research on a brand before undergoing a treatment.
Can I have a spray-tan whilst pregnant?
Yes, As far as Project C products are concerned you can undergo a treatment whilst pregnant. Spray-tanning solutions only at penetrate the upper derma skin layers. We always do advise to consult your GP to avoid any potential reaction to medication or allergies.
